This type was struck in Lima for Peru 1907-08 and 1914-17. Unlike the similar ½ dinero (five centavos), dinero (ten centavos) and quinto (twenty centavos), this coin was minted only sporadically. Fortunately for collectors, many were saved and the type is not rare, even in uncirculated. The 1908 is the only rare date. It was replaced by a billon half sol (KM 216) struck 1922-35 and a brass half sol (KM 220) struck 1935-65.
Recorded mintage: 30,000.
Specification: 12.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 30 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM 203.
