This medio dinero, or half dime, was struck in Lima in 1904. Most issued after 1898 were made from melted down one sol coins. Varieties and overdates abound; for 1904, a 1904/1894, 1904/1891 and 1904/1893 overdates recorded in addition to the normal date. There is a variety with "FFLIZ" in the obverse legend instead of the proper "FELIZ"; this is known paired with several different overdate reverse dies. A earlier type, with a slightly different figure of seated Liberty, was issued 1863-64 (KM 189). The silver coin was replaced in 1918 by a copper-nickel five centavos.
Recorded mintage: 723,000.
Specification: 1.25 g, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge.
