This specimen was lot 72317 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 1/5 Sol, 1893-TF-JR. Lima Mint. NGC MS-61. A SCARCER date in the series, this example retains Mint State beauty with its attractive luster, despite some contacts consistent for the grade assigned." This quinto was struck 1888-1917 in Lima,. Most dates are readily available but 1914, 1915 and 1917 are scarce. Varieties and overdates abound.
