This specimen was lot 24625 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. Sol, 1892-TF. NGC MS-65. Type XI. Single finest certified at NGC. Sharply struck, frosty and brilliant with exceptional eye appeal. From the Alex Siegel Collection." The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1888-92 at the Lima mint for Peru. There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic design and later issues were emitted 1893-97 and 1914-16. This date is common. Assayer TF is recorded for 1886-96. For 1892 there is an overdate, 1892/82, and an overassayer, TF/BF.

Recorded mintage: 2,270,000 (including the 1892/82 overdate and TF/BF overassayer).

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .7234 troy oz ASW.
