Peru 1884-RD sol

from the Stack's Bowers 2017 ANA sale, lot 23097

This specimen was lot 23097 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $176.25. The catalog description^[1] noted, "PERU. Sol, 1884-RD. NGC MS-62." The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1885-87 at the Lima mint for Peru. There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic design and later issues were emitted 1888-97 and 1914-16. This date is common. For 1884, assayers BD and RD are recorded along with BD/BF.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 0.7234 troy oz ASW.
