Sed36-1383r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1383 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $540. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, ½ real, 1853/1 MB, NGC MS 62, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Flatt, ex-O'Brien. Good luster and very faint rainbow toning, the date side choice but the Liberty side slightly off-center, very scarce overdate (clear). Pedigreed to the H.P. Flatt Collection and to the John O'Brien Collection (both stated on label), with his tag." This type was struck at Lima 1840-58 and varied from the prior type (KM 144.1) in having the fineness added to the shield side. This is listed as a rather better date. Assayer MB is listed for 1838-58.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-144.7.
