Peru 1851-L MB 2 escudos
This specimen was lot 1230 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold 2 escudos, 1851 MB, very rare, NGC AU 55, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Decent luster with full rims and fairly strong details, the obverse lightly hairlined, not noted as rare in KM or Friedberg but we have only seen one other example of this date. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection (stated on label)." This type was struck in Lima 1828-29, 1833 and 1850-55 only and is not common. There is no mention of Cuzco or Arequipa striking this type.
