This specimen was lot 17984 in Heritage auction 354 (the Horwedel sale, Long Beach, CA, September 2004), where it sold for $2,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pasadena, CA - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 469 The Pasadena NB Ch. # (P)3568. Brown Backs, Red Seals, and date Backs only from this early Pasadena bank which went out in 1914. Despite thirteen notes in the census, we show only five offerings during the past sixty years, with only two coming since 1990. The Colver Brown Back, sold five years ago, realized over $3500. This piece, although not quite as nice, should do equally as well in this much stronger market. About Fine."
