Parma 1830 centesimo
This specimen was lot 2779 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "PARMA: Maria Luigia, 1814-1847, AE centesimo, 1830, a lovely example, PCGS graded MS63 BN." This one year type is not rare. Its enormous mintage was likely far in excess of what the duchy could absorb (the population of the city of Parma in 1868 was about 68,000). Maria Luisa was an Austrian princess and widow of Napoleon, who was given the duchy of Parma at the Congress of Vienna in lieu of a pension. Surprisingly, she proved to be a popular and effective ruler, widely mourned at her death in 1847.
Recorded mintage: 2,029,000.
Specification: 1.89 g, copper, 19.1 mm diameter.
