PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder. Regnal year shown as "A-III". Intermingled shades of tone create a mostly uniform presentation and considerable underlying luster helps to further elevate the eye appeal. SCARCE overall quality for this masterfully engraved, expertly produced issue. Ex: Stack's Coin Galleries Sale (November 1991), Lot #1869 (tag included)." After the reform of 1830, five quattrini = one baiocco; ten baiocchi = one giulio; 100 baiocchi = ten giulii = one scudo. This type is listed for 1831-34 and was struck in Rome (shown here) and Bologna. It is among the less common Papal scudi of the nineteenth century. In 1866, the currency was reformed to use centesimi and lire in order to match that of the surrounding kingdom of Italy. In 1870, the Papal States were occupied and annexed by the kingdom of Italy and coinage ceased until 1929.
