This specimen was lot 72392 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal States. 30 Baiocchi, 1830-B. Bologna Mint. Sede Vacante. PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. A charming papal issue, this piece was struck following the death of Pope Pius VIII and before the election of Gregory XVI. Attractively toned with only a hint of light wear, just one has been graded finer by PCGS." This type was struck at Bologna and Rome 1830 only during a sede vacante (papal vacancy).
