This specimen was lot 47164 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal (States of the Church). Doppio Giulio (1/5 Scudo), 1781 Year VII. Pius VI. PCGS MS-63." This type is listed in the SCWC for 1777-84, one of the few multiyear types listed therein. The doppio giulio was twenty baiocchi, while the scudo was one hundred baiocchi. The SCWC notes this type as common. It was superseded 1783-96 by a doppio giulio with the papal arms on the obverse (KM 1045).
