This specimen was lot 35589 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Papal States. Clement IX Testone ND (1667-69) AU58 PCGS. St. Peter seated, reverse Papal arms. With slate gray toning, An exceptionally sharp strike for this early Testone." This undated type was minted during the reign of Clement IX (1667-69). The testone was thirty baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone).
