The first specimen was lot 1867 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,486 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VATIKAN/KIRCHENSTAAT Sede Vacante, 1667. Scudo 1667, Rom. Selten. Kl. Schrötlingsf. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Papal States, vacant seat, scudo of 1667, Rome mint, rare, slightly weak, very fine to good very fine.)"

Silver coins are popular with collectors not only for their Catholic associations but also the extraordinarily vivid portraits of the various popes. This type, issued during an interregnum, is scarce.

Specification: 31.99 g, 0.917 fine silver, the first specimen 31.98 g.
