from Sedwick Treasure Auction 21, lot 583

This specimen was lot 583 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $235. The catalog description[1] noted, "Overijssel, United Netherlands, 'rider' ducatoon, 1680. Nice broad flan with bold VF details and nice toning, minimal surface corrosion, scarce. Recovered from: Reijgersdaal, sunk in 1747 off South Africa." Single ducatons are listed for Overijssel for 1659-69 and 1675-82 but the double ducatons are rare.
