This specimen was lot 40540 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,116. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Osnabruck. Taler, 1698. NGC XF-45. Date in chronogram. Short crosses on church. Toned. Demarete Collection." This coin was issued by the bishop of Osnabruck and comes in two varieties, with short crosses (shown here) and tall crosses on the churches on the reverse. The bishopric was later merged with the bishopric of Münster and both were annexed to Hannover in 1803.
