This specimen was lot 36194 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Orbetello. 4 Quattrini, 1782. Ferdinand IV. PCGS AU-53." Orbetello was one of the Stato dei Presidi on the coast of Tuscany. When Cosimo of Florence conquered the republic of Siena in 1555, the Spanish retained five fortified towns, which became the Stato dei Presidi, and held them against all comers until 1735, when they were transferred to the Bourbon king of Naples, who later became king Charles III of Spain. The Presidi were part of Naples until 1801, when they were conqured by the French. This copper four quattrini was struck 1782, 1791 and 1798, of which the 1782 is the most common. One and two quattrini were also issued.
