Oman AH1400 25 baisa rev DSLR.jpg

Oman, long a British protectorate, achieved full independence in 1971. Coinage began that year. She has watched enviously as her neighbors, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, harvest billions of dollars by selling oil, of which little occurs in Omani territory. This type is listed for 1975, 1980, 1985, 1989 and 1997 only. In 1972, the coinage was reformed and the country name shortened to plain "Oman". This coin does not bear an A.D. date.

Recorded mintage: 5,250,000.

Specification: 2.9 g, copper-nickel, 18 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 45a.
