This specimen was lot 55647 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Nova Scotia. Copper Penny Token, 1856. Victoria. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown." This token was struck for use in the province of Nova Scotia prior to confederation in 1870. It was accompanied by a half penny token. It comes with the engraver's initials "L C W" below the bust (shown here) or without. A few were struck in bronze. Decimal coinage was introduced in 1861 and used until confederation. This specimen realized three times the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 360,000 (all varieties).
