Norway 1526 skilling
This specimen was lot 78323 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. Shilling, 1526. Oslo Mint. Frederik I. NGC AU-53. An attractive and SCARCE issue with a wonderful gray patina and olive hued toning when cradled in hand." This type was struck 1526-30. Ninety-six skilling made a specie daler. Frederik I was originally duke of Schleswig-Holstein and was elected king of Denmark in 1523 and king of Norway in 1524. He recognized Gustav Vasa as king of Sweden, abandoning efforts to revive the Kalmar Union. He never set foot in Norway and spent most of his reign in Holstein.
