This specimen is from a type struck 1939, 1946, 1950-56 for Nicaragua and is common in all grades. It superseded a silver type (KM 14) now scarce. The late twenties marked a period of anarchy for Nicaragua, ending in the early thirties when the U.S. connived at the takeover of power by Somoza.
Recorded mintage: 3,000,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 4 g, copper-nickel, 20 mm diameter.
