This specimen was lot 33750 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "Canada: Newfoundland. George VI Cent 1944-C MS63 Brown NGC, Royal Canadian mint. Exhibiting opulent aqua-marine tone that pervades every corner of the otherwise rich chocolate fields, and undoubtedly choice, the coveted type is seldom presented so alluring." This type was struck 1938-47 at Ottawa for Newfoundland (then a separate colony) and is the last cent struck for circulation there. Five and ten cents were also struck in 1944. After the war, Newfoundland lapsed back into poverty and consented to merge with Canada in 1949.
