Stack's Bowers November 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 78317

This specimen was lot 78317 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Dollar, 1983. Llantrisant Mint. Elizabeth II. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo. Struck to commemorate the 50th anniversary of New Zealand coinage." This commemorative was issued in copper-nickel (KM 53) and sterling silver (KM 53a, shown here). Another 1983 dollar promoted the royal visit by then prince Charles and princess Diana (KM 52).

Recorded mintage: 40,000 plus 25,000 for collector sets plus 35,000 sterling silver proofs.

Specification: 28.28 g, copper-nickel, 38.6 mm diameter; KM 53a: 27.2 g, 0.925 fine silver.
