Neuchatel 1817 kreuzer
The first specimen was lot 5273 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Neuenburg/Neuchâtel, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1805 und 1814-1840 Kreuzer 1817. Fast FDC. (principality of Neuchatel, Frederick William III of Prussia, 1797-1805 and 1814-40, kreuzer of 1817. About uncirculated.)"
The second specimen was lot 3460 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$226 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Neuenburg/Neuchâtel | Fürsten von Neuchâtel. Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1805 und 1814-1840. Kreuzer 1817, Bern. FDC. (principality of Neuchatel, Frederick William III, 1797-1805 and 1814-40, kreuzer of 1817, Bern mint. Uncirculated.)"
The canton of Neuchâtel issued a variety of coins during the eighteenth century while the county was under Prussian administration. This two year type is available in all grades. Forty batzen = four franken = one thaler and four kreuzer = one batzen.
Recorded mintage: 303,000 for 1817-18.
