Neuchatel 1694 2 pistoles Fr-339
This specimen was lot 44 in Sincona sale 5 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 90,000 CHF (about US$110,745 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Neuchâtel Marie de Nemours (1694-1707). Doppelpistole 1694. Av. MARIA· DG· PR· SVP· – NOVICASTRI (Blume). Brustbild mit Haube und Kopftuch nach rechts. Rv. OCVLI· DOMINI· SVPER· IVSTOS· I694 · Vierfeldiges, gekröntes Wappen. Äusserst selten, nur 3 bekannte Exemplare bis dato. Winz. Rdf. Kabinettstück. Fast FDC. Exemplar der Sammlung Iklé (1911). Lot 825. (Switzerland, canton of Neuchâtel, Marie de Nemours (1694-1707), double pistole of 1694. Obverse: reverse: crowned, quartered arms. The SCWC lists this type as very rare. It was the first double pistole struck since 1618.
