Netherlands East Indies 1930 1/4 gulden
This specimen was lot 21212 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. 1/4 Gulden, 1930. PCGS PROOF-64 Cameo Gold Shield. Meticulously produced with deep reflectivity in the fields and consistent frost on the raised designs. Like the previous lot, EXTREMELY RARE in this highly collectible presentation quality, this being the finest of only two examples certified by PCGS and NGC combined." This specimen was minted in Utrecht for the Netherlands East Indies in 1910-21, 1929-30. The SCWC lists no proofs for this date. A similar type (KM 319) was struck in Utrecht and San Francisco for the area until 1945. In 1949, the Dutch gave up their attempt to reconquer their colony and Indonesia obtained its dependence.
