Netherlands East Indies 1896 1/10 gulden
This specimen was lot 21210 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. 1/10 Gulden, 1896. Wilhelm III. PCGS PROOF-64 Cameo Gold Shield. Possessing delicate cameo-producing frost over the designs and strong gleaming reflectivity in the surround fields. Undoubtedly EXTREMELY RARE in the Proof quality, this being the only example we have seen and the only example certified by either PCGS or NGC. A singular opportunity as such for the collector of this popular region." This type was struck 1854-58, 1882-85, 1891-1901 and is common in all grades.
