This specimen was lot 5772 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Chicago, August 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Important Serial Number '1' Pasadena $10 Date Back, National Bank Notes. Pasadena, California. $10 1902 PB. Fr. 628. The NB of Commerce. Charter #10082. Choice About Uncirculated. This note is by far the most desirable for the charter with nearly all other notes known grading fine or worse. The desirable serial number '1' is showcased beautifully here with brilliant blue inks against fresh and original white paper. Vivid penned signed signatures of the Cashier and President along with pleasing centering and margins. A simple vertical center bend and corner tip fold are all we mentioned for circulation. The note last changed hands in 2003 and has not sold publicly since. An important opportunity which will be a highlight in any collection of California nationals."

The catalog description[1] noted, "Pasadena, California. $20 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 657. The NB. Charter #10082. PMG Choice Very Fine 35 EPQ. A gorgeous lightly handled note that becomes just the second $20 PB reported from here and also is the nicer of the two. The beautiful stamped signatures on bright white paper are quite appealing as well."
