This specimen was lot 72389 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Naples. 1/2 Ducato, 1707-IM//AG/A. Filippo V, King of Spain. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, AU Details Gold Shield. Obverse: Draped and armored bust right; Reverse: Radiant sun shining upon the earth. A rather interesting reverse design, this lightly toned example was once used as a jewelry piece as is evident by the mount removed from the edge." Charles II, the last Hapsburg king of Spain, was also king of Naples and Sicily. After his death the area passed out of the hands of the Spanish crown, only to be reconquered by them in the 1730's. In the interim, Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor 1711-40, was also king of Naples 1707-34. This type, struck 1702 and 1707, features Philip V before Naples was conquered by the Austrians.
