Munsterberg-Oels 1529-NB ducat Fr-3228
This specimen was lot 3823 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$3,875 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MÜNSTERBERG-OELS, HERZOGTUM Karl I. 1511-1536. Dukat 1529, Reichenstein. Ausbeute der Reichensteiner Gruben. GOLD. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit herrlicher Goldpatina, kl. Kratzer, sonst vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, duchy of Munsterberg-Oels, Charles I, 1511-36, ducat of 1529, Reichenstein mint, for the mines. Rare in this quality, very attractive with fine gold color, small scratch, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
The duchy is located in Silesia and fell to the Hapsburgs in 1647 on the extinction of the line. Frederick the Great of Prussia seized Silesia in the 1740's but it is now part of Poland. This type is listed for 1520-36.
