Munster 1719-AG P 1-1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 546 in Künker Auction 424 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,204 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · MÜNSTER, BISTUM Sedisvakanz 1719. 1 1/2facher Reichstaler 1719, Münster. Brustbild des Heiligen Paulus mit Schwert und Buch v. v. in Kapitelwappen, zu den Seiten die Signatur A · G – · P (Anton Gottfried Pott, Münzmeister in Münster 1713-1719), darüber die Jahreszahl 1719, umher Schriftkreis in Verzierungen, außen die 19 Wappen der älteren Domherren//Brustbild Karls des Großen mit Schwert und Reichsapfel v. v., umher Schriftkreis in Verzierungen, außen die 19 Wappen der übrigen Domherren. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön +. (Germany, bishopric of Münster, sede vacante, 1½ thaler of 1719, Münster mint. Obverse: St. Paul with sword and book on the chapter's arms, initials to the sides, date above, 19 shields of the older canons around; reverse: bust of Charlemagne with sword and ofb, facing, legend around with the 19 shields of the younger canons. Handsome patina, choice very fine.)"
Davenport mentions a 1½ thaler of 1711 in his list of "pseudo thalers" but it is not this one. The SCWC notes a single thaler of the same design (KM 161).
