Steve Album sale 55, lot 2421

This specimen was lot 2421 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Shah Alam II, 1759-1806, AR rupee, Shahjahanabad (Delhi), AH1191 year 19, NGC graded MS62." This type was struck years 15-29 and is fairly common. By the end of Shah Alam's reign, the Mughal Empire had shrunk to the point where the Shahjahanabad (Delhi) mint was the only one under the emperor's direct control.
