Steve Album sale 55, lot 676

This specimen was lot 676 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $3,900. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Muhammad Shah, 1719-1748, AV mohur, Shahjahanabad (Delhi), year 25, incredible mint state, very rare in this quality! NGC graded fully lustrous MS66." This type was struck years 3-30 at Delhi and is common for a mohur. According to the SCWC, this year is not known with a complete AH date; the first two digits of "۱۱۵۵" are visible on this specimen. Wikipedia comments, "Muhammad Shah's reign was marked by the rapid and irreversible decline of the Mughal Empire that was exacerbated by Nader Shah's invasion of India and the sack of Delhi in 1739. This course of events not only shocked and mortified the Mughals themselves, but also other foreign powers, including the British."
