Steve Album sale 54, lot 2202

This specimen was lot 2202 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Muhammad Shah, 1719-1748, AR rupee, Peshawar, AH1146 year 16, bold strike, broad flan, with full date, mint, and regnal year, XF." Peshawar struck this type years 1-7 and 14-21. SCWC lists 63 mints for the type 436 rupee. Peshawar, now in Pakistan, was captured by the emperor Babur in 1526 and held by the Mughals until 1738, when it was taken by the Afsharids.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
