Steve Album sale 55, lot 2401

This specimen was lot 2401 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Farrukhsiyar, 1713-1719, AR rupee, Kora, AH1145 year 15, clear Hijri date and regnal year, NGC graded MS62." The Mughal Empire stretched over most of India in the early eighteenth century and numerous mints struck gold mohurs for the emperor. The Mughal Empire dominated India during the seventeenth century but broke up in the eighteenth century under external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war. This collapse allowed European colonizers entry into the subcontinent and eventual British control. This type is listed from at least 64 mints in India. It was struck for Muhammed Shah, not Farrukhsiyar. The SCWC lists AH 1145, year 14, for this mint but not AH 1145, year 15.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 11.0-11.6 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM-436.39.
