Mughal Empire AH 1106/39 mohur Fr-808
This specimen was lot 42367 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,110. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Mughal Empire. Mohur, AH 1106 Year 39 (1696). Ujjain Mint. Aurangzeb Alamgir. PCGS AU-55. Boldly struck with well-formed inscriptions and satiny surfaces, this handsome and gently circulated example offers a pleasing pale gold coloration with good eye appeal." Aurangzeb expanded the Mughal empire in all directions and had conquered nearly all of India by the time of his death. Sixty-four mints struck mohurs for him. This date is listed from seven mints, including Ujjain shown here, which also struck this type in years 37, 38 and 48.
