Mughal Empire AH 1043/6 mohur Fr-794
This specimen was lot 681 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Shah Jahan I, 1628-1658, AV mohur, Akbarabad, AH1043 year 6, one small test cut on the obverse (not noted on the slab), excellent strike and first year of this type at Akbarabad, ANACS graded VF30." Shah Jahan is most remembered today for having built the Taj Mahal as a mausoleum for his wife. Twenty-five mints struck mohurs for him and Akbarabad is listed in this style for years 6-28. His successors after Aurangzeb (r. 1658-1707) were not able to cope with external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war and the empire broke up in the eighteenth century.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
