This specimen was lot 1324 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,982 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"INDIEN Mughal Empire, Shihab al-Din Muhammad Shah Jahan, 1037-1068 AH (1628-1658). Mohur 1066 AH / Year 29, Dar-al aman Multan. NGC UNC Details. NGC has assessed this coin as "BENT", however we see no evidence of this."
Shah Jahan is most remembered today for having built the Taj Mahal as a mausoleum for his wife. Twenty-five mints struck mohurs for him and Multan is listed in this style for years 6-7, 22 and 28-33. His successors after Aurangzeb (r. 1658-1707) were not able to cope with external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war and the empire broke up in the eighteenth century.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 10.8-11.0 g, gold, this specimen 10.95 g.
