Mughal Empire (1759)/1 1/2 rupee KM-470.1
This specimen was lot 701 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $510. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Shah Jahan III, 1759-1760, AR 1/2 rupee, Azimabad, year one (ahad), mint confirmed by the symbol above the regnal year on the reverse, VF, RR, ex Spink Auction 13019, Lot 482 (2013). This is the only piece cited on CoinArchives." Shah Jahan III (1711-72) was the sixteenth Mughal emperor, holding the throne for ten months in 1759-60. Altho the regnal date is visble on this example, we don't see any sign of the AH date (1173 or "۱۱۷۳") on it or the plate specimen in the SCWC. Azimabad is now the city of Patna in Bihar province.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 5.5-5.8 g, silver, this specimen 5.71 g.
