Morocco AH 1321-Pa rial
This specimen was lot 3363 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 35 € (about US$45 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Marruecos. AH 1321(1903). Abd al-Aziz. París. 1 rial. AG. MBC+ [choice very fine]." The ruler Abdul al-Aziz succeeded his father Hassan I in AH 1311. He continued having coins struck in Paris, and added issues struck in London, Berlin, and Birmingham. The denominations were mazunas and dirhams, with one dirham = 50 mazunas. The 'crown' denomination was one rial, which was equal to ten dirhams. During this time, the ruler was honored on the coins not directly by name, but by a word or expression that alluded to him.
