Mexico 1969 peso KM-Pn205
This specimen was lot 34415 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $7,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Copper-Nickel Peso Pattern, 1969-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-64. Purported Mintage: 28. The design that was to be adopted upon circulating coinage from 1970 to 1983. A pearlescent example of this VERY RARE pattern, offering a reflective gleam in the fields and chiseled design elements." The billon peso (KM 459) was retired in 1967, the victim of hoarding, even tho it contained only 0.051 oz of silver. This pattern was the first Mexican peso to contain no silver at all.
