This specimen was lot 25455 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $3,290. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 50 Pesos 1923, Mexico City mint, MS65 NGC. Gem Uncirculated, virtually free of marks and also rare in this grade. Only 1 piece graded higher in the NGC Census with only five others in similar grade." This coin was minted in Mexico City in 1922. The type was struck 1921-47 along with a silver two pesos. No date is rare but the 1921 obtains a slight premium. It is commonly nicknamed the "Centenario."
