Mexico 1909-M 10 centavos
The first specimen was lot 72775 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1909-M. NGC MS-66. Sharply struck with beautiful iridescent toning." This specimen is a slightly scarce date of a series struck 1905-14 at the Mexico City mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the ten centavos piece struck 1898-1905 under the Republic. The older coin was 2.7 g, 0.903 fine. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller ten centavos piece in 1919. The last branch mints, Zacatecas and Culiacan, were closed in 1905 and all official Mexican coinage since has borne the Mexico City mintmark ("M" or "Mo").
