Mecklenburg-Gustrow 1668 ducat Fr-1700
This specimen was lot 2490 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 8,750 CHF (about US$13,188 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Mecklenburg-Güstrow, Herzogtum, Gustav Adolf, 1636-1695. Dukat 1668, Wismar. Sehr selten. Gutes vorzüglich. Leichte Prägeschwäche. (Germany, duchy of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, Gustavus Adolphus, 1636-95, ducat of 1668, Wismar mint. Very rare, About Uncirculated, Slightly weakly struck.)"
This rare type was also struck in 1666. Mecklenburg-Güstrow, founded in 1503, fell extinct in 1695 and the state passed to Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Never a prosperous state and hit hard by the Thirty Years War, Mecklenburg issues are few and scarce.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.39 g.
