Mauritius 1899 20 cents

from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72175

This specimen was lot 72175 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $168. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MAURITIUS. 20 Cents, 1899. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. A well struck coin with faint russet toning in the obverse fields." This is a common date of a type struck 1877-78, 1882-83, 1886, 1889, 1899.

Recorded mintage: 600,000 + proofs.

Specification: 2.33 g, 0.800 fine silver.
