Mansfeld-Bornstedt 1747-IIG thaler Dav-2437
This specimen was lot 42285 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mansfeld-Bornstedt. Taler, 1747. Eisleben Mint. Heinrich, Prince of Fondi. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. Despite the noted cleaning and subsequent mottling of color, this essentially uncirculated specimen retains exacting detail and hints of brilliance scattered about." Henry was the last count; on his death in 1780 all of Mansfeld went to Saxony and later Prussia. This is nearly the last thaler from that locality issued in the eighteenth century; presumably the prolific silver mines of the previous century had become exhausted.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
Specifications: 29.17 g, silver.
