This specimen was lot 75435 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $5,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "MALTA. 5 Grani, 1755. Emmanuel Pinto. PCGS MS-63 Brown. Struck to an exacting level of detail, this scarcely-seen Order of Malta issue is offered here in an exceptional state of preservation, its chocolate-brown surfaces gleaming with glossy luster. An enviable specimen and one unlikely to be found finer." This type was struck 1751-55 and 1762. This example realized 56 times the catalog value in EF.
