Malaysia obtained her independence in 1963, being a federation of the former British colonies in southeast Asia (Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and British North Borneo). Singapore left in 1965 after interracial riots made it clear that Chinese were not welcome. This type was struck 2011-13 but, clearly, other dates exist. As of August 2023, US$1 = 4.65 Malaysian ringgit, making this coin worth about US$0.02.
