Steve Album sale 51, lot 2772

This specimen was lot 2772 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $96. The catalog description[1] noted, "MADRAS PRESIDENCY: AE pie, 1825//AH1240, reverse type II (1 dot below the last letter of Persian yek pay ("one pie"), NGC graded AU55 BN, ex Solar Collection." This type was struck in London AH 1240/1825 and AH 1248/1833. Neither are rare tho the 1825 is more common. One rupee was 192 pies (later paisa). Two and four pie copper pieces also exist.

Recorded mintage: 4, 741,328 plus proofs.

Specification: 2.13 g, copper, 17.7 mm diameter, plain edge.
