Luzern 1619 dicken
This specimen was lot 4304 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 1,900 CHF (about US$2,634 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Stadt und Kanton, Dicken 1619, Luzern. Selten. Fast sehr schön. Rand etwas bearbeitet. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, dicken of 1619, Luzern mint. Rare, About Very Fine, Edge slightly tooled.)"
This type was struck 1617-22 in many varieties. In other cantons, the dicken was 24 kreuzer or 4/15 thaler but in Luzern it was worth a quarter thaler. St. Leodegar, depicted on the reverse, made an enemy of Ebroin, mayor of the palace of Neustria, and was blinded on his orders in AD 679.
